Summary of RTR’s April Leadership Meeting

On April 4th, the RTR leadership had its second Quarter 1 2020 meeting. The topics we covered included:

  • Strengthening our online presence. We discussed plans to increase our Discord, Facebook, Twitter, and website presences. The ideas considered included:
    • Hold online discussions or panels (such as “How to roll-play for beginners”)
    • Hold online discussions on Discord
    • Revitalize Discord question of the day
    • Continue to post regularly to the blog
    • Virtual Crawling Chaos. Walking together, alone.
  • Player safety best practices. We discussed implementing (and in some cases, have implemented), elements from Monte Cooke’s Consent in Gaming, as well as The Luxon Techniques, described in the TTRPG Safety Toolkit: A Quick Reference Guide. We also discussed some additional resources:
  • The current status of upcoming Semi-Organized Play seasons:
    • Dungeons and Dragons: We are in the process of doing world-building and testing ideas. The SOP is slated to launch next year.
    • Contingent: Play tests are happening now, and are therefore happening online.
  • Tool use in our online games. Our SOPs are currently using a combination of Jit.si, Discord, and Roll 20. We discussed whether we needed any additional subscriptions to make our move to online gaming work, and concluded that we did not, but are still researching this topic
  • Finances. Our current expenses are a monthly subscription with Obsidian Portal ($5.99) and six-month Meetup fee ($98.94, due again on May 19th). Our expenses are otherwise down, since we’re not currently paying for multiple Premium GM memberships at Event Horizon and don’t have printing costs for in-person events. However, we’re also not receiving donations.
